Moved Through It

I finally got to some artwork that i’d been thinking on. i used to do a lot of collage type work, working with letterpress stamps and ink, ephemera, different types of paper. i love working with layers, it’s really satisfying. finding something interesting, like an old photo – and work to both hide and reveal it at the same time.

this time around i used a nice woodpanel – which is the best way to go so far. even the thickest stock of paper can’t hold up with all the layers of polymer and paint, always ends up buckling and warping. i also used a new acrylic polymer for a clear glue/coating, and then also mixed it with paints which gave me really nice transparent colouring. i really like using Iridescent Bright Gold (Fine) with it.

The Devil’s Workshop

This is where my silver-smithing classes are held.
This is where my silver-smithing classes are held.

I registered for a silversmith class today, it starts february 6th, and goes for 6 weeks. I’m so happy about this. The first project is making a ring and setting a stone in it, and then there are 3-4 other projects after that. I’ve always been so curious about this, and there is this little place right up the street from my place that i always walk by. Last night when i strolled passed it i though”i’m doin it”. And today, i went back and signed up. The two women in there were really cool and nice. I left the shop with a huge smile on my face. 🙂

Beautiful Paper

Getting ready to make holiday cards.
Getting ready to make holiday cards.

I went down to the Paper Place on Queen St. yesterday. I’ve always been in love with this place. It has every type of paper product imaginable. Gorgeous stuff. There is something about fine paper products that really get me going. I’m planning to create some crafty holiday greeting cards, starting today. First, I need to get over simply admiring the variations of beauty each piece holds….and then I will finally bring myself to cut it up into pieces. 🙂
